HISTORY

Admirable Class Minesweeper:
Laid down 1 July 1943 by Gulf Shipbuilding  Co., Chickasaw, Ala.
Launched 16 December 1943 , sponsored by Mrs. Clara L. Oliver 
and Commissioned USS Pirate (AM-275) 16 June 1944  
 
Specifications:
Displacement 79ft, Length 184' 6", Beam 33', Draft 9' 9", Speed 15kts, Compliment 104
 
Armament
Bow Mount  - One 3"-50
Port and Starboard Sides -  Twin Mount 40mm,  Twin Mount 20mm, and

2-dcp, 2-dcp, 1-dep

 

De-Commissioned 6 Nov. 1946 at Bremerton Washington .
The ship reported to Serv Pac in December 1947 for deployment 
in Japanese waters in a caretaker status, she retained this status,
out of service in reserve for the next several years. 

 

On August 14, 1950, the USS Pirate (AM-275) 
was re-commissioned at the Naval Shipyard in Yokosuka Japan 
with ceremonies performed by Commander Mine Squadron 3.
The USS Pirate was designated as the Flag Ship of the Division 
under the Leadership of LCDR Bruce Hyatt, Division Commander, 
and Commanded by LT Corneilus McMullen
